The proposed location of the refinery is in zone 11 of the Coega Development Corporation’s industrial development zone, about 20 minutes by road from Port Elizabeth.

The refinery will be situated roughly 10 km from the harbour of Ngqura and will take up about 600 ha. Crude oil will be pumped from a Single Point Mooring (SPM) about 10 km from the coast to the refinery for processing.

Refined liquid products such as diesel, kerosene and petrol will be pumped to a tank farm about 3 km from the refinery and from there to ships in the harbour for export. Refined, solid by-products like dry sulphur and coke will be transported via conveyor belts to a dry bulk storage facility near the harbour.
